NSUN6

Description

The NSUN6 (NOP2/Sun RNA methyltransferase 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

NSUN6 is an S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase that specifically adds a methyl group to the C5 position of cytosine 72 in tRNA(Thr)(TGT) and tRNA(Cys)(GCA). It has also been shown to methylate tRNA(Thr)(AGT) in vitro. This methylation process requires the presence of the 3'-CCA terminus, the target site C72, the discriminator base U73, and the second and third base pairs (2:71 and 3:70) within the acceptor stem region of the tRNA substrates.

NSUN6 is also known as 4933414E04Rik, ARL5B-AS1, MRT82, NOPD1.
