Description
The NRP2 (neuropilin 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.
Neuropilin 2 (NRP2) is a protein encoded by the NRP2 gene in humans. It belongs to the neuropilin family of receptor proteins and is expressed by a variety of cell types. NRP2 is a transmembrane protein that binds to several ligands, including SEMA3C, SEMA3F, VEGF-A, VEGF-C, VEGF-D, TGFβ, integrins, and ANGPTL4, triggering downstream signaling pathways. NRP2 plays a role in cardiovascular development, axon guidance, tumorigenesis, inflammation, and cardiovascular disease. Multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene.
NRP2 acts as a high-affinity receptor for semaphorins 3C and 3F, as well as the VEGF-165 and VEGF-145 isoforms of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and the PLGF-2 isoform of placental growth factor (PGF).
