NRG4

Description

The NRG4 (neuregulin 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

Neuregulin 4, also known as NRG4, belongs to the neuregulin protein family. In humans, it is encoded by the NRG4 gene. NRG4, along with other neuregulins, activates erb-b2 receptor tyrosine kinase 4 (ERBB4) to initiate cell signaling through cytosolic tyrosine phosphorylation. Reduced expression of NRG4 is frequently observed in advanced bladder cancer, while elevated NRG4 expression is linked to better survival.

NRG4 acts as a low affinity ligand for the ERBB4 tyrosine kinase receptor. It also recruits ERBB1 and ERBB2 coreceptors, leading to tyrosine phosphorylation and activation of these receptors upon ligand binding. However, NRG4 does not bind to ERBB1, ERBB2, or ERBB3 receptors.

NRG4 is also known as HRG4.
