NPTXR

Description

The NPTXR (neuronal pentraxin receptor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

The NPTXR gene encodes a protein similar to the rat neuronal pentraxin receptor. The rat protein pentraxin is believed to facilitate neuronal uptake of synaptic material and the presynaptic snake venom toxin, taipoxin. Research on rats suggests that the translation of this mRNA begins at a non-AUG (CUG) codon. This possibility extends to humans and mice due to strong sequence conservation across these species.

This protein may play a role in the process of synapse remodeling by mediating the uptake of synaptic material. It may also contribute to the clustering of AMPA glutamate receptors at specific excitatory synapses.

NPTXR is also known as NPR.
