NPLOC4

Description

The NPLOC4 (NPL4 homolog, ubiquitin recognition factor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

Nuclear protein localization protein 4 homolog is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NPLOC4 gene.

The NPLOC4 protein forms a complex with UFD1 and VCP, which binds ubiquitinated proteins and is essential for the removal of misfolded proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the cytoplasm for proteasomal degradation. This complex also plays a role in spindle disassembly at the end of mitosis and the formation of a closed nuclear envelope. Additionally, NPLOC4 acts as a negative regulator of type I interferon production by interacting with RIGI and promoting its ubiquitination and degradation through the recruitment of RNF125.

NPLOC4 is also known as NPL4.
