NOX3
Description
The NOX3 (NADPH oxidase 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.
NOX3, encoded by the NOX3 gene, is a plasma membrane-associated enzyme that belongs to the NADPH oxidase family. These enzymes are found in various cell types.
NOX3, a NADPH oxidase, produces superoxide radicals from molecular oxygen using NADPH as an electron donor. This process occurs when NOX3 forms a complex with CYBA/p22phox. NOX3 contributes to the development of otoconia/otolith, which are calcium carbonate crystals in the inner ear that help detect gravity.
NOX3 is also known as GP91-3, MOX-2.
