Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS), including the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. It is characterized by inflammation and damage to the myelin sheath, the protective layer that surrounds nerve fibers. This damage disrupts the transmission of nerve impulses, leading to a wide range of symptoms.
