NETO1

Description

The NETO1 (neuropilin and tolloid like 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.

NETO1, or Neuropilin (NRP) and tolloid (TLL)-like 1, is a protein encoded by the human NETO1 gene. This protein is predicted to be a transmembrane protein with two extracellular CUB domains followed by a low-density lipoprotein class A (LDLa) domain. A similar protein in mice is crucial for spatial learning and memory by regulating synaptic N-methyl-D-aspartic acid receptor complexes in the hippocampus. Multiple isoforms of this protein are produced through alternative splicing.

NETO1 plays a crucial role in the development and maintenance of neuronal circuitry. It acts as an accessory subunit of the neuronal N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR), specifically contributing to the preservation of GRIN2A-containing NMDARs within the postsynaptic density. This function enables NETO1 to regulate long-term NMDA receptor-dependent synaptic plasticity and cognitive processes, particularly in the context of spatial learning and memory.

NETO1 is also known as BCTL1, BTCL1.
