WT1 : WT1 transcription factor

Description

The WT1 gene, located on chromosome 11, plays a crucial role in the development of the kidneys and gonads. It encodes a transcription factor, a protein that controls the expression of other genes, and is essential for proper organ formation. WT1 regulates the expression of a wide range of genes involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival during kidney and gonad development. Mutations in the WT1 gene can lead to a variety of developmental disorders, including Wilms tumor, a type of kidney cancer, and Denys-Drash syndrome, a rare disorder affecting the kidneys, gonads, and other organs.
