IFT52

Description

The IFT52 (intraflagellar transport 52) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

IFT52 plays a crucial role in ciliogenesis by participating in intraflagellar transport (IFT), a process that involves the bidirectional movement of particles essential for the assembly, maintenance, and function of primary cilia. IFT52 is specifically required for the anterograde transport of IFT88, a protein involved in cilia formation.

IFT52 is also known as C20orf9, CGI-53, NGD2, NGD5.
