HPSE2 : heparanase 2 (inactive)

Description

HPSE2, also known as Heparanase-2, is a gene located on chromosome 16q22.1 that encodes a protein involved in the degradation of heparan sulfate (HS). HS is a complex polysaccharide that is present on the surface of cells and in the extracellular matrix. It plays a crucial role in various biological processes, including cell growth, migration, and development. HPSE2 is responsible for cleaving specific linkages within HS chains, thereby influencing its structure and function. This gene is highly expressed in various tissues, including the liver, lung, and kidney, and its activity is regulated by a number of factors, including growth factors and cytokines.
