HES7

Description

The HES7 (hes family bHLH transcription factor 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

HES7 acts as a transcriptional repressor, inhibiting gene expression by binding to both N-box and E-box promoter regions. It collaborates with HES1 in regulating somite formation within the presomitic mesoderm (PSM). HES7 potentially functions as a segmentation clock, crucial for coordinated somite segmentation.

HES7 is also known as SCDO4, bHLHb37, hHes7.
