The CLDN19 (claudin 19) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

These proteins are found in tight junctions, which are structures that control the passage of molecules and ions across epithelial layers. CLDN19 has been linked to magnesium transport. CLDN19 plays a crucial role in forming tight junctions, effectively sealing the space between cells and preventing the passage of substances. This function is independent of calcium and relies on cell adhesion mechanisms.

CLDN19 is also known as HOMG5.
