Description

The ARMC9 (armadillo repeat containing 9) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

ARMC9 is a protein encoded by the ARMC9 gene in humans. It contains a LisH domain and is involved in ciliogenesis. ARMC9 is required for appropriate acetylation and polyglutamylation of ciliary microtubules and regulates cilium length. ARMC9 also acts as a positive regulator of hedgehog (Hh) signaling and may be involved in the trafficking and/or retention of GLI2 and GLI3 proteins at the ciliary tip.

ARMC9 plays a crucial role in ciliogenesis, ensuring proper acetylation and polyglutamylation of ciliary microtubules, which in turn regulates cilium length (PubMed:32453716). Furthermore, ARMC9 acts as a positive regulator of hedgehog (Hh) signaling (By similarity). It is suspected that ARMC9 may be involved in the trafficking and/or retention of GLI2 and GLI3 proteins at the ciliary tip (By similarity). These functions are supported by interactions with TOGARAM1, CCDC66, CEP104, CSPP1, and CEP290.
