NELFE

Description

The NELFE (negative elongation factor complex member E) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

NELFE is a key component of the NELF complex, which plays a crucial role in regulating the elongation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. The NELF complex, in association with the DSIF complex, negatively regulates transcription by inducing pausing. This pausing is counteracted by the P-TEFb kinase complex. NELFE exhibits the strongest RNA-binding activity within the NELF complex and is thought to be responsible for initially recruiting the complex to RNA.

NELFE is also known as D6S45, NELF-E, RD, RDBP, RDP.
