NCAPG

Description

The NCAPG (non-SMC condensin I complex subunit G) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

NCAPG, also known as condensin subunit CAP-G, is a protein encoded by the NCAPG gene in humans. It is a subunit of condensin I, a large protein complex essential for chromosome condensation.

NCAPG, as a regulatory subunit of the condensin complex, plays a crucial role in transforming interphase chromatin into tightly packed mitotic chromosomes. The condensin complex, facilitated by NCAPG, likely introduces positive supercoils into relaxed DNA when type I topoisomerases are present. Additionally, it converts nicked DNA into positively knotted forms in the presence of type II topoisomerases.

NCAPG is also known as CAPG, CHCG, NY-MEL-3, YCG1.
