NACA2

Description

The NACA2 (nascent polypeptide associated complex subunit alpha 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

NACA2 prevents non-secretory proteins from being mistakenly transported to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). It achieves this by binding to newly formed protein chains as they emerge from ribosomes. This binding blocks the interaction with the signal recognition particle (SRP), which normally guides secretory proteins to the ER. NACA2 also weakens the attraction between ribosomes and ER membrane sites involved in protein translocation.

NACA2 is also known as ANAC, NACAL.
