MYL6

Description

The MYL6 (myosin light chain 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

Myosin light polypeptide 6 is a protein encoded by the MYL6 gene in humans. Myosin is a motor protein composed of six subunits: two heavy chains, two nonphosphorylatable alkali light chains, and two phosphorylatable regulatory light chains. The MYL6 gene encodes a myosin alkali light chain that is expressed in smooth muscle and non-muscle tissues. Several pseudogenes have been identified, and two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

This protein is a regulatory light chain of myosin and does not bind calcium.

MYL6 is also known as ESMLC, LC17, LC17-GI, LC17-NM, LC17A, LC17B, MLC-3, MLC1SM, MLC3NM, MLC3SM.
