**Myopia (Myopia) Over **

Description

Myopia is a common vision condition where distant objects appear blurry, while close objects can be seen clearly. It occurs when the eyeball is too long or the cornea is too curved, causing light to focus in front of the retina instead of on it. This results in distant objects appearing out of focus.

Associated Diseases

Myopia can be associated with several eye conditions, including:

  • Retinal detachment: The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Myopia increases the risk of retinal detachment, a serious condition that can lead to vision loss.
  • Glaucoma: Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve. Myopia is a risk factor for developing glaucoma.
  • Macular degeneration: Macular degeneration is a disease that affects the central part of the retina, called the macula. Myopia is associated with an increased risk of developing macular degeneration later in life.

Approximately 25% of the world's population is nearsighted, making it one of the most common vision problems. The prevalence of myopia is increasing worldwide, especially among young people.
