MUC15

Description

The MUC15 (mucin 15, cell surface associated) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Mucins are a family of heavily glycosylated proteins produced by epithelial tissues. They form gels, acting as lubricants, signaling molecules, and barriers. MUC15 is a membrane-bound mucin, meaning it's anchored to the cell membrane. While the exact function of MUC15 isn't fully understood, its potential role in cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix suggests it could be involved in maintaining tissue structure and integrity.

MUC15 is also known as MUC-15, PAS3, PASIII.
