MTIF3
Description
The MTIF3 (mitochondrial translational initiation factor 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.
MTIF3, also known as translation initiation factor IF-3, mitochondrial, binds to the 28S ribosomal subunit within mitochondria. This binding shifts the balance between assembled 55S ribosomes and their individual 39S and 28S subunits, favoring the free subunits. By increasing the number of available 28S subunits, MTIF3 facilitates the initiation of protein synthesis in mitochondria.
MTIF3 is also known as IF3mt.
