MRTO4

Description

The MRTO4 (MRT4 homolog, ribosome maturation factor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

MRTO4 plays a critical role in ribosome assembly. As a nuclear paralog of the ribosomal protein P0, it binds to pre-60S ribosomal subunits during their early assembly stages in the nucleolus. Subsequently, it is replaced by P0 in cytoplasmic pre-60S subunits and mature 80S ribosomes.

MRTO4 is also known as C1orf33, MRT4, dJ657E11.4.
