MRPL42

Description

The MRPL42 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein L42) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

The MRPL42 gene encodes a protein known as 28S ribosomal protein L42, mitochondrial. It plays a role in protein synthesis within mitochondria. Mitochondria have their own ribosomes, called mitoribosomes, which consist of a smaller 28S subunit and a larger 39S subunit. The MRPL42 protein is associated with both subunits, although further research is needed to determine its exact location. There are three different versions of the MRPL42 gene, leading to two different protein isoforms. Additionally, there are several pseudogenes related to MRPL42 found on different chromosomes.

The MRPL42 gene encodes a protein that is involved in protein synthesis within the mitochondria. It helps form the large subunit of the mitochondrial ribosome, which is essential for translating genetic information into proteins.

MRPL42 is also known as HSPC204, L31MT, L42MT, MRP-L31, MRP-L42, MRP-S32, MRPL31, MRPS32, PTD007, RPML31, S32MT, mL42.
