MRPL11
Description
The MRPL11 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein L11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
The MRPL11 gene, located in the human genome, codes for a protein called 39S ribosomal protein L11, mitochondrial. This protein is part of the machinery that builds proteins within mitochondria, the energy-producing organelles of our cells. Mitochondrial ribosomes are responsible for synthesizing proteins needed for mitochondrial function, and they consist of two subunits: a smaller 28S subunit and a larger 39S subunit. MRPL11 is specifically part of the larger 39S subunit, contributing to its structure and function. The gene has three known transcript variants that create different isoforms of the protein. Interestingly, there are also pseudogenes for MRPL11 on chromosomes 5q and 12q, which are inactive copies of the gene.
MRPL11 is also known as CGI-113, L11MT, MRP-L11, uL11m.
