MLLT3
Description
MLLT3, also known as AF9, is a gene that plays a crucial role in normal hematopoiesis, the process of blood cell formation. It encodes a protein that interacts with the MLL protein, a master regulator of gene expression involved in cell growth and differentiation. Rearrangements and mutations in the MLLT3 gene can lead to aberrant gene expression and contribute to the development of various leukemias, particularly acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
Associated Diseases
- Acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
- Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)
- Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
- B-cell lymphoma
Did you know?
The MLLT3 gene was initially identified as a fusion partner with the MLL gene in patients with AML, highlighting its role in leukemia development.
