MIR4673

Description

The MIR4673 (microRNA 4673) is a ncRNA gene located on chromosome 9.

This gene encodes a microRNA. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally. miRNAs are processed from hairpin-shaped precursor transcripts that are cleaved by the RNase III endonuclease Drosha in the nucleus to produce a stem-loop structure. This hairpin is further processed in the cytoplasm by the RNase III enzyme Dicer to produce a mature miRNA, approximately 22 nucleotides in length. Mature miRNAs associate with the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) and target mRNAs by base pairing to their 3‘ untranslated region (3‘UTR). Binding of miRNAs to their target mRNAs can lead to translational repression or mRNA degradation.
