Osteoarthritis
Description:
Osteoarthritis (OA), also known as degenerative joint disease, is the most common type of arthritis. It occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of bones wears down over time. This can lead to pain, stiffness, swelling, and decreased range of motion in the affected joints.
OA can affect any joint in the body, but it most commonly occurs in the knees, hips, spine, and hands. Risk factors for OA include age, obesity, joint injury, and family history.
Associated Diseases:
OA is often associated with other musculoskeletal conditions, such as:
- Obesity
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Gout
- Diabetes
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
