The YWHAG (tyrosine 3-monooxygenase/tryptophan 5-monooxygenase activation protein gamma) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.
YWHAG, also known as 14-3-3 protein gamma, is encoded by the YWHAG gene in humans. It belongs to the 14-3-3 protein family, which is highly conserved across species and plays a crucial role in mediating signal transduction by binding to phosphorylated proteins. YWHAG is 100% identical to its rat ortholog and is induced by growth factors in human vascular smooth muscle cells. It is also highly expressed in skeletal and heart muscles, suggesting a critical function in muscle tissue. YWHAG has been shown to interact with RAF1 and protein kinase C, key proteins involved in various signal transduction pathways.
YWHAG, also known as 14-3-3 protein gamma, acts as an adapter protein involved in regulating a broad range of signaling pathways, both general and specialized. It binds to numerous partners, often recognizing phosphoserine or phosphothreonine motifs, and typically modulates the activity of its binding partners. Notably, YWHAG promotes the inactivation of the WDR24 component of the GATOR2 complex by binding to phosphorylated WDR24.
