The WDR83OS (WD repeat domain 83 opposite strand) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

WDR83OS, also known as Asterix, is a protein associated with the ER translocon of 10kDa. It is a WD repeat domain 83 opposite strand protein. WDR83OS is a component of the multi-pass translocon (MPT) complex, which mediates the insertion of multi-pass membrane proteins into the lipid bilayer of membranes. The MPT complex takes over after the SEC61 complex, and WDR83OS is involved in redirecting the substrate to a location behind the SEC61 complex.

WDR83OS, also known as Asterix, is a component of the multi-pass translocon (MPT) complex. This complex is essential for the insertion of multi-pass membrane proteins into the lipid bilayer of membranes. The MPT complex takes over from the SEC61 complex, occluding the lateral gate of the SEC61 complex to facilitate insertion of subsequent transmembrane regions. Within the MPT complex, the PAT subcomplex, which includes WDR83OS, sequesters highly polar regions in the transmembrane domains until they are fully buried. WDR83OS binds to the substrate and directs it to a location behind the SEC61 complex.
