TBXAS1 : thromboxane A synthase 1

Description

The TBXAS1 gene,  encodes thromboxane A synthase 1 (TXAS1), an enzyme crucial for the biosynthesis of thromboxane A2 (TXA2). TXA2 is a potent vasoconstrictor and platelet aggregator, playing a vital role in hemostasis and inflammation. TXAS1 converts prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) into TXA2, a short-lived compound that exerts its effects through its G protein-coupled receptor (TP receptor). Mutations in the TBXAS1 gene can lead to impaired TXA2 production, potentially impacting platelet function and thrombus formation.

Did you know?

Interestingly, TXA2 production is also increased in response to certain inflammatory stimuli, contributing to the inflammatory response.
