SLC25A26

Description

The SLC25A26 (solute carrier family 25 member 26) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

SLC25A26, also known as mitochondrial S-adenosylmethionine carrier protein (SAM carrier), is a mitochondrial S-adenosyl-L-methionine/S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine antiporter. It facilitates the exchange of cytosolic S-adenosyl-L-methionine, the primary methyl-group donor for macromolecule methylation processes, with mitochondrial S-adenosylhomocysteine (SAH), a byproduct of methylation reactions. This exchange is essential for maintaining methylation reactions within mitochondria.

SLC25A26 is also known as COXPD28, SAMC.
