SLC10A7

Description

The SLC10A7 (solute carrier family 10 member 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

The SLC10A7 gene in humans encodes Sodium/bile acid cotransporter 7, a protein involved in various biological processes. It's a vital player in teeth and skeletal development, contributing to the production of a functional extracellular matrix by facilitating the synthesis and transportation of crucial components like glycosaminoglycans and glycoproteins. Additionally, SLC10A7 plays a regulatory role in cellular calcium homeostasis.

SLC10A7 plays a crucial role in teeth and skeletal development by facilitating the biosynthesis and trafficking of glycosaminoglycans and glycoproteins, which are essential components of the extracellular matrix. This process is critical for proper extracellular matrix mineralization. Additionally, SLC10A7 is involved in the regulation of cellular calcium homeostasis. However, it does not exhibit transport activity towards bile acids or steroid sulfates, including taurocholate, cholate, chenodeoxycholate, estrone-3-sulfate, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) and pregnenolone sulfate.

SLC10A7 is also known as C4orf13, P7, SSASKS.
