PIGY

Description

The PIGY (phosphatidylinositol glycan anchor biosynthesis class Y) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

PIGY plays a critical role in the initial stage of GPI biosynthesis. It is part of the GPI-GnT complex, which transfers N-acetylglucosamine from UDP-N-acetylglucosamine to phosphatidylinositol. This transfer is a crucial step in the formation of GPI anchors, which are essential for attaching proteins to cell membranes. PIGY may regulate the activity of the catalytic subunit PIGA within the GPI-GnT complex.

PIGY is also known as HPMRS6, PIG-Y.
