MAP3K3

Description

The MAP3K3 (mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

MAP3K3, located on chromosome 17, encodes a 626-amino acid polypeptide involved in regulating cell fate. It activates the stress-activated protein kinase (SAPK) and extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase (ERK) pathways by activating SEK and MEK1/2, respectively. It also enhances transcription from a nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB)-dependent reporter gene, indicating a role in the SAPK pathway. Its expression is ubiquitous. It interacts with SQSTM1/p62. Two SNPs in the MAP3K3 gene are associated with colon and rectal cancers.

MAP3K3 is part of a protein kinase signal transduction cascade that activates the NF-kappa-B, AP1 and DDIT3 transcriptional regulators.

MAP3K3 is also known as MAPKKK3, MEKK3.
