MAP3K2
Description
The MAP3K2 (mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.
MAP3K2 is an enzyme that belongs to the serine/threonine protein kinase family. It primarily activates other kinases involved in the MAP kinase signaling pathway. MAP3K2 directly phosphorylates and activates IkappaB kinases, playing a role in the NF-kappa B signaling pathway. It binds and activates protein kinase C-related kinase 2, suggesting its involvement in regulated signaling processes. MAP3K2 is activated through homodimerization and subsequent trans-autophosphorylation at MEKK2-S519. 14-3-3 proteins bind to MEKK2-phosphoT283, and SMYD3 binds and methylates MEKK2-K260, both regulating its activity.
MAP3K2 is involved in protein kinase signal transduction cascades. It regulates the JNK and ERK5 pathways by phosphorylating and activating MAP2K5 and MAP2K7. It also plays a role in caveolae kiss-and-run dynamics.
MAP3K2 is also known as MEKK2, MEKK2B.
