MAP3K15

Description

The MAP3K15 (mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase 15) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

MAP3K15 is a gene that encodes a protein involved in the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. This protein acts as a kinase, meaning it adds phosphate groups to other proteins. It plays a crucial role in cell death (apoptosis) caused by various stressors. The MAP3K15 protein activates a specific type of MAPK called p38 MAPK, which is involved in several cellular processes, including stress responses and cell survival.

MAP3K15 is a serine/threonine kinase involved in the MAP kinase signal transduction pathway. It acts as an upstream activator of the p38 MAPK cascade, phosphorylating and activating several MAP kinase kinases. This activation is triggered by various cellular stresses and contributes to apoptosis. MAP3K15 also participates in the phosphorylation of WNK4 in response to osmotic or hypotonic low-chloride stimulation, mediated through the p38 MAPK pathway.

MAP3K15 is also known as ASK3, bA723P2.3.
