LSM5

Description

The LSM5 (LSM5 homolog, U6 small nuclear RNA and mRNA degradation associated) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

The LSM5 gene encodes the U6 snRNA-associated Sm-like protein LSm5. Sm-like proteins, found in various organisms, share sequence homology with the Sm protein family. They contain the Sm sequence motif, composed of two regions separated by a linker that forms a loop.

LSM5 is a protein that plays a role in pre-mRNA splicing by being a component of the U4/U6-U5 tri-snRNP complex, which is involved in spliceosome assembly. LSM5 is also part of the precatalytic spliceosome (spliceosome B complex). The LSM2-8 complex, which includes LSM5, binds specifically to the 3' terminal U-tract of U6 snRNA.

LSM5 is also known as YER146W.
