LSM1
Description
The LSM1 (LSM1 homolog, mRNA degradation associated) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.
LSM1, a human gene, encodes the U6 snRNA-associated Sm-like protein LSm1. Sm-like proteins are characterized by their sequence similarity to the Sm protein family and contain the Sm sequence motif, consisting of two regions separated by a linker. These proteins are believed to form a stable heteromer within tri-snRNP particles, which are essential for pre-mRNA splicing.
LSM1 plays a crucial role in the degradation of histone mRNAs, which are unique among eukaryotic mRNAs as they lack a polyadenylated tail. It is also likely involved in a broader LSm subunit-containing complex that participates in general mRNA degradation.
LSM1 is also known as CASM, YJL124C.
