Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
Description:
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the joints and can also damage other organs. It causes inflammation and pain in the joints, leading to swelling, stiffness, and decreased mobility. RA typically affects the small joints of the hands, feet, ankles, and knees but can spread to other parts of the body, including the lungs, heart, eyes, and kidneys.
Associated Diseases:
RA is associated with several other autoimmune conditions, including:
- Sjögren's syndrome: affects moisture-producing glands, causing dryness in the eyes, mouth, and other areas.
- Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE): involves inflammation and damage to various organs and tissues.
- Scleroderma: causes hardening and thickening of the skin and connective tissues.
- Vasculitis: inflammation and damage to blood vessels.
