Description:
Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is a condition in which the force exerted by blood against the walls of arteries is consistently elevated. Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) and is expressed as two numbers: systolic pressure (the pressure when the heart beats) and diastolic pressure (the pressure when the heart rests between beats). Hypertension is defined as a systolic blood pressure of 130 mm Hg or higher, or a diastolic blood pressure of 80 mm Hg or higher.
