Description

The LIMS2 (LIM zinc finger domain containing 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

LIM zinc finger domain containing 2 (LIMS2) is a protein encoded by the LIMS2 gene in humans. It belongs to a small family of focal adhesion proteins that interact with integrin-linked kinase (ILK), a protein involved in protein-protein interactions with the extracellular matrix. LIMS2 contains five LIM domains, each forming two zinc fingers, which mediate interactions that regulate cell shape and migration. A pseudogene of LIMS2 is located on chromosome 4, and multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.

LIMS2 acts as an adapter protein within the cytoplasm, linking beta-integrins to the actin cytoskeleton. It further bridges this complex to cell surface receptor tyrosine kinases and growth factor receptors, ultimately contributing to the regulation of cell spreading and migration.
