LGALS3BP

Description

The LGALS3BP (galectin 3 binding protein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

LGALS3BP is a protein encoded by the LGALS3BP gene. Galectins are a family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins that influence cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. LGALS3BP localizes to chromosome 17q25 and binds specifically to a human macrophage-associated lectin called Mac-2 and also to galectin 1. Elevated levels of LGALS3BP have been observed in the serum of cancer patients and those with HIV infections, suggesting involvement in immune responses related to natural killer (NK) and lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cell cytotoxicity. LGALS3BP interacts with LGALS3.

LGALS3BP promotes integrin-mediated cell adhesion. It may contribute to host defense against viruses and tumor cells.

LGALS3BP is also known as 90K, BTBD17B, CyCAP, M2BP, MAC-2-BP, TANGO10B, gp90.
