LCTL

Description

The LCTL (lactase like) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

Lactase-like is a protein in humans encoded by the LCTL gene. It's a glycosidase enzyme, belonging to family 1 glycosidases. These enzymes break down glycosidic bonds. Most family 1 members have two critical glutamic acid residues for activity. The mouse version of this protein has an N-terminal signal peptide, glycosidase domain, transmembrane domain, and a short cytoplasmic tail. However, it lacks one of the essential glutamic acid residues for catalysis, and its function is still unknown. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.

LCTL is also known as KLG, KLPH.
