KRTAP9-6

Description

The KRTAP9-6 (keratin associated protein 9-6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP9-6, also known as Keratin-associated protein 9-like 2, is a hair keratin-associated protein (KRTAP) that plays a crucial role in the formation of the hair shaft. It is embedded within the interfilamentous matrix of the hair cortex, where it interacts with hair keratin intermediate filaments. KRTAP9-6 is rich in cysteine residues, which form extensive disulfide bonds with hair keratins, contributing to the rigidity and resistance of the hair shaft. Its structure is characterized by high sulfur content and an abundance of glycine and tyrosine residues.

KRTAP9-6 is also known as KAP9.6, KRTAP9.6, KRTAP9L2.
