KRTAP6-2

Description

The KRTAP6-2 (keratin associated protein 6-2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP6-2 plays a crucial role in the structural integrity of hair by forming a complex network within the hair cortex. This network, composed of hair keratin-associated proteins (KRTAPs), strengthens the hair shaft by forming strong disulfide bonds with hair keratin. The disulfide bonds are facilitated by the abundant cysteine residues present in KRTAP6-2 and other matrix proteins, including those rich in sulfur and glycine-tyrosine.

KRTAP6-2 is also known as KAP6.2.
