KRTAP5-2

Description

The KRTAP5-2 (keratin associated protein 5-2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

KRTAP5-2, along with other keratin-associated proteins (KRTAPs), plays a crucial role in forming the interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex. This matrix surrounds and supports hair keratin intermediate filaments, contributing to the structural integrity and strength of the hair shaft. KRTAP5-2's abundant cysteine residues facilitate extensive disulfide bond cross-linking with hair keratins, reinforcing the hair's rigidity and resilience.

KRTAP5-2 is also known as KRTAP5-8, KRTAP5.2.
