KRTAP4-6

Description

The KRTAP4-6 (keratin associated protein 4-6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP4-6 is a component of the hair cortex matrix, a complex network surrounding keratin intermediate filaments. It plays a vital role in hair shaft structure and strength by forming extensive disulfide bonds with keratin fibers, thanks to its rich cysteine content. These bonds enhance the rigidity and resistance of the hair shaft.

KRTAP4-6 is also known as KAP4.15, KAP4.6, KRTAP4-15, KRTAP4.15.
