KRTAP4-3

Description

The KRTAP4-3 (keratin associated protein 4-3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP4-3 plays a critical role in hair structure by forming part of the interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex. This matrix, composed of various keratin-associated proteins (KRTAPs), including KRTAP4-3, surrounds the keratin intermediate filaments. KRTAP4-3's high cysteine content allows it to create extensive disulfide bonds with hair keratins, contributing to the formation of a strong and resilient hair shaft.

KRTAP4-3 is also known as KAP4.3.
