KRTAP4-11

Description

The KRTAP4-11 (keratin associated protein 4-11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP4-11, a hair keratin-associated protein (KRTAP), plays a crucial role in the structure and strength of hair. It is located within the hair cortex, where it forms an interfilamentous matrix surrounding hair keratin intermediate filaments. KRTAP4-11 contributes to the rigidity and resistance of the hair shaft through extensive disulfide bond formation with abundant cysteine residues present in hair keratins. This protein belongs to the high-sulfur keratin-associated protein family.

KRTAP4-11 is also known as KAP4.11, KAP4.14, KRTAP4-14, KRTAP4.14.
