KRTAP4-1

Description

The KRTAP4-1 (keratin associated protein 4-1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP4-1 is a hair keratin-associated protein that forms part of the interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex. This matrix is crucial for the structural integrity of the hair shaft, providing it with rigidity and resistance. KRTAP4-1 contributes to this by forming extensive disulfide bonds with hair keratins, facilitated by its high cysteine content. This interaction, along with other matrix proteins like high-sulfur and high-glycine-tyrosine keratins, ensures the stability and strength of the hair fiber.

KRTAP4-1 is also known as KAP4.1, KAP4.10, KRTAP4-10, KRTAP4.10.
